Housing

While the true endgame of FFXIV is glamour, housing is right up there with it. Though this will sound bizarre to people who don't play the game, there's a housing crisis: there are only so many houses for players, and on busy servers they can very easily fill up. To make matters worse, there are three tiers of houses: small, medium, and large, each more scarce than the last.

I therefore got extraordinarily lucky to land a medium housing plot on one of the busiest servers in the game. I had better odds than usual (new housing plots had just become available, so availability was high), but even then it was a 1-in-3 chance for me to get the plot. I remain very grateful that I won!

Aether - Siren - Lavender Beds - Ward 26 - Plot 27

The interior was designed by my friend Brodie. In lore, this is Cálei's house with his husband, G'raha, so of course the Crystal Tower is featured. Cálei spends most of his time in the kitchen or the upstairs workshop (or outside tending the flowers), while G'raha busies himself with the library. I actually have enough slots to decorate the basement as well, but I'm waiting on the promised housing item limit increase... along with the rumors of making the interior larger.

This was not Cálei's first house, though I only have scarce photos of the previous iteration. Likewise designed by Brodie, I thought of it as something of a "starter house" for Cálei and G'raha; I got the house after 5.3, I believe, so I've always thought of it as being somewhere they moved in once they returned to the Source together. Back in the days of instant relocation I was able to snag a house right down the street from my FC house, so that was nice.

My ideal housing location for them is of course the Crystarium, though this seems unlikely to ever happen. Barring that, I have thoughts about them retiring to Sharlayan after their adventures are over, so perhaps in the future...? We'll see.
